Nigel will endeavour to tailor the routes and sites to any particular interests of the group. Due to the nature of the tour there is an element of group riding from one venue to the next. You will be based in Bayeux in a lovely thee star hotel for the three nights in France. While the focus is historical the tour will also be an enjoyable and relaxed ride, with low daily mileages there will be plenty of opportunities to unwind and enjoy the culture and cuisine of France.
Old fortifications, bunkers and museums will all be on the ride as Nigel takes you around Normandy imparting his knowledge and giving you an insight into this seminal battle. You will also visit Pegasus bridge captured by British glider forces in the early hours of D-Day to prevent its destruction by German forces and scene of the first British casualty of the invasion. You will visit Sword and Gold Beaches where the British forces came ashore as well as Juno and Omaha, scene of the heaviest casualties with its high cliffs. Your guide will be retired Major, Nigel Richardson who will take you on a four day tour of the critical and now iconic locations that mark this most important action of World War II.
Your tour will cross the channel on the ferry from Poole to Cherbourg in considerably more comfort than the brave soldiers of seven decades ago. Operation Neptune was the name of the beach landings and we are going to visit the scene of so much bravery and so much loss in our D Day Beaches motorcycle tour. The allies second attempt to take the battle for Europe back to European soil was to become D-Day. Seventy five years ago plans were being made for one of the most audacious invasions in human history.
